What age can my child start playing soccer in Winnipeg?
Mini and Timbits soccer starts at age 3 or 4 depending on the program. Most community centres offer Mini soccer for ages 4 to 7. Most organized programs in Winnipeg start at age 3 or 4.
Do I need any soccer experience to register my child?
No. Recreational and Mini programs welcome complete beginners. No tryouts, no experience required.
What is the difference between recreational, developmental, and premier soccer?
Recreational soccer is community based, once or twice a week, no tryouts, and focused on fun and basic skill development. Developmental soccer is a step up with more structured training and typically requires tryouts. Premier soccer is competitive club soccer requiring tryouts with two to three sessions per week and travel across the city.
My child is not competitive. Is there a middle ground?

Registration
When does registration open for outdoor soccer?
Outdoor registration typically opens in January and closes in March. Dates vary by club. Check our Clubs and Programs directory for links to each club's registration page.
When does registration open for indoor soccer?
Indoor registration typically opens in August and September for a season that runs November through March.
How do I know which club to register with?
As of 2026 WYSA removed all geographical boundaries for recreational soccer. You can now register with any club in Winnipeg regardless of where you live. Browse our Clubs and Programs directory and compare clubs by neighbourhood, commitment level, and age group.
What is the MSA player fee and do I have to pay it?
Yes. All players in Manitoba must pay an annual Manitoba Soccer Association player fee regardless of which club they join. For the 2025 to 2026 season this was $54 for recreational soccer and $20 for mini soccer. This fee is paid separately from your club registration fee through the RAMP registration system. Check the MSA website for current rates.
What does registration typically cost?
Recreational indoor and outdoor soccer typically costs between $350 and $500 per season plus the MSA fee. Costs vary by club and program level. Check each club listing for more details or contact the club directly for current fees.
Can I request that my child play with a friend?
Friend requests can sometimes be accommodated but are not guaranteed. Contact your club directly when registering to ask about their friend request policy.
Financial Assistance
What financial assistance is available for Winnipeg soccer?
Three main programs are available to most families. KidSport Canada provides grants for children who need financial support to participate in sport. The Canadian Tire JumpStart Grant also supports children facing financial barriers. Many clubs also have their own subsidy programs. Contact your club directly or visit kidsportcanada.ca and jumpstart.canadiantire.ca to apply.
Is financial assistance available for all program levels?
KidSport and JumpStart apply to most recreational programs. Premier and elite programs may not qualify. Check with your club and the funding programs directly.
What to Bring
What does my child need to play soccer?
Shin guards are mandatory at all ages and levels. For indoor soccer your child needs turf shoes, cleats, or runners. No metal cleats are allowed indoors. For outdoor soccer cleats are recommended. Some clubs provide a uniform included in the registration fee. Check with your club before purchasing a uniform.
Does my child need a specific uniform or kit?
Some clubs have specific uniform colours or kit requirements. Check the individual club listing or contact the club directly before buying anything beyond shin guards and appropriate footwear.
Seasons and Facilities
When is the outdoor season?
The outdoor season runs from May through June for most age groups. Ages 13 to 18 have playoffs in July. Practices typically begin in late April depending on field conditions.
When is the indoor season?
The indoor season runs from November through March with a two week break over Christmas.
Where do games take place?
Games take place at facilities across the city including WSF Soccer South, WSF Soccer North, the Axworthy RecPlex, Seven Oaks Sportsplex, and various community fields. What is the difference between WSF Soccer South and WSF Soccer North?
Both are large indoor turf facilities managed by the Winnipeg Soccer Federation. WSF Soccer South is located at the University of Manitoba in South Winnipeg. WSF Soccer North is located at the Garden City Community Centre in North Winnipeg. Both host WYSA leagues throughout the indoor season.

Where can adults play soccer in Winnipeg?
